Pohjoisessa Chileä rajaa kuiva Atacaman aavikko, idässä jylhät Andien vuoristot, etelässä karu jäätikkö ja lännessä tyyni valtameri. Nämä luonnonilmiöt vaikuttavat suuressa määrin Chilen ilmastoon, suojelevat viinitiloja epäpuhtauksilta sekä syöpäläisiltä ja vaikuttavat oleellisesti viinin viljelyyn. ”Frontera” (engl. frontier) on kunnianosoitus näille mahtaville luonnollisille esteille.
